transferring to a larger tank

Ok, heres the deal. I have had this tank setup for a little over a year now and it's time to move my 30g pride and joy to a 55g. I need to know the best way to do it. I have gotten conflicting advice from GARF and from my lfs. GARF says it's easier to fill the new tank a little at a time with water from water changes from my old tank and to about 70% and then use new water for the rest. Said it should probably take two weeks or so if done every few days. Lfs says just put all rocks and coral in buckets and and transfer water to new tank, add rocks and coral into new tank and finish fill with new water. Add on all equipment and keep on truckin'. What do you guys think? Any help would be very appreciated.

What we did when we upgraded form20g to 40g is put all the water in clean containers then put your liverock in one container and your livestock in another this is to prevent injury to the livestock. I did not do this and lost one fish due to the lr shifting in the container. we then added the dry sand to increase our sand bed added a little water and put our ls ontop. we then sat a small bucket down in the tank to finish adding the water that we had saved to the tank make sure that you mix enough new water up the day before so that you an fill the whole tank all at once.once the tank was about 3/4 full we removed the bucket and finished adding the water we had some clouding but was all clear by the next day. we did not lose any livestock in the transfer except the fish that was killed by the shifting rock.
