transformer question

I have a portable "battery jumper".The charging transformer failed. It reads
input 120vac 60hz 12w
output 12vdc 500ma
I have a spare transformer,it reads
input 120vac 60hz 12w
output9vdc 500ma
I see the output is only 9v but will it work and only require more time to recharge the unit or will I need one with the same specs.
i know it is not tank related but a lot of bright people hang out on this diy forum. Thanks,
Nelson

Google "Jameco."
They sell tons of replacement power supplies. The power supply you listed is very common, they'll have it. You might also try Parts Express or MCM Electronics, they are both in Ohio so shipping will be quick and cheap.
Anything rated 12v at 500ma or more would work. Voltage must match, current must be the same or greater.

I did you one better. Jameco PN 117479
$8.
Don't throw out your old power supply until you get a replacement. Often the barrel connector on the replacement supply won't fit, you may need to cut the plug off the old one and splice it onto the replacement supply.
