Trapped at work by man with gun

I was at my car, leaving for the day, but I forgot my car keys. As I got back on the elevator to get them, I received a text message that a man with a rifle had been seen on campus, and we were on lockdown. It is now 2 hours later and we are still locked down. I can barely hear for all of the helicopters overhead, and the cops are all over the place. If anything else happens, SWF.com will be up to date from on site

That's us, but there may be a second person, so they are searching the campus, and the surrounding neighborhood.

Sources say the weapon appeared to a single shot, old style rifle. One law enforcement official said it looked a musket. Another said while the weapon appeared old, it was capable of firing a .50 caliber round.

I would feel better about hiding under a desk from an armed lunatic if I had been allowed to carry a firearm for personal protection?

Pick a doorway that he is most likely to go through to get to your room, and hide near it with some kind of heavy club in a position to clobber him from behind then he goes through.

I'm home, and fine. Thank you all for your concern. They kept us on lockdown for a total of about 4 hours while they searched the campus and evacuated each building, floor by floor. The university response was outstanding. Everyone was notified and kept informed by email, automatic text messaging and automated cell phone, and the NYPD responded very quickly and professionally. The fact that the guy had a mask in addition to a gun is what scares me - at first impression, he sounds like a true nut case.
Now I have to grade papers until late tonight to make up for the time I lost this afternoon.
