I would think though you are going to have to do more than just a cleaner shrimp.
I'm not sure about that. When I set up my tank at this house 7 years ago I didn't have any problems. About a year down the road I bought an infected purple tang. Within a few days, every fish was flashing against the rocks, and two died.
I would think if my tank always had it they would have showed symptoms/died before I got the tang.
But now I have a problem with my spotted box fish. She definitely has ich and she's breathing so rapidly I can barely see her mouth moving. None of the other fish seem to be getting it though. My fire and cleaner shrimp won't do a thing to help.
I may try one of the products mentioned in this thread. For those who've tried them, did they affect anything in your tank at all? Are there any success stories?

i really hoping my cleaners will do there job

I had to make an emergency qt a couple years ago, and I used a 5 gallon aquarium kit from Walmart. One that small probably wouldn't work for a tang, but It worked like a charm for couple smaller fish I had. I got some sand, rocks, and water from my main tank so the thing was basically ready to go in 1/2 hour or so.
I would try that this time, but I have too many small/speedy fish to even think about catching them. And if I just do the box fish I'm sure she'll get it again since the ich will most likely still be in my aquarium water or it may concentrate on one of the other fish.

My quest in life is to dispell this myth from our hobby....
Long ago people didn't understand ich. We now have ich's life cycle fairly well studied. Ich is a parasite. It has a known life cycle of around 4 weeks. Part of that life cycle requires hosting on a fish. Ich Is NOT in every tank. I cannot stress that enough. If you practice safe QT procedures you can 100% guarantee an ich free tank.
Cleaner shimps, garlic and UV can all help, but none will 100% eliminate all of the different stages on the parasite.
No way in the world would I trust any "reef safe" medication in a reef tank. Some have with success, others have and wiped their tanks.
QT tank with hypo and copper... that's all I can tell ya.
