Hi I have a 140 gallon reef tank, and whenever I put any new fish in they get some small salt spots almost instantly. I know its because the parasites are living in the bottom of the tank, not enough of them to kill the existing fish, however enough to harm, and usually kill any new comers. About 5 very expensive angels to be exact (2 emperors, and 3 majestics) So the guy at my LFS convinced me it was that i had no UV sterilizer, and that there was not enough chem filtration, so I changed my filter around, got a UV sterilizer put some more chem in. Told to run it for 6 weeks, I did. Then I got another Emperor, a larger one this time. I had him in a QT for 2 weeks and he was eating, and had no spots even treated him with Prazi Pro. I put him in tonight and I already noticed about 8 spots. I know I need to treat the tank until they're gone, but what works, how can I save the angel, how do I know they're gone, what can i use that I wont need to take out the >200lbs of LR or coral? Does anything work like this. Ive heard Hypo Salinity works but do you need to take out the LR, and sand, I know you have to take the coral out. I can do this if required, what about copper I know that works too I also have a ton of macro algae in the fuge will it be affeccted? PLEASE HELP, ALL INPUT IS HELPFUL, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH

Do not add copper into your display. It will kill all of your stock minus the fish. You cannot kill the parasites in the tank with everything in there. You mentioned that you have a QT. If you pull all of your fish out into the QT, treat them while leaving your display fallow, then ich will no longer be in your system. If that is not an option then you will have to be sure that all new fish going into the display have a very high immune system so that they can fight off ich like the rest of your fish do. Be sure that your QT is a very comfortable place to be. Dose their food with vitamins and fresh garlic.

i took everything out the DT except the sand. I left the rubble rock in the sump and treated the tank with hypo. Worked great so far. Almost 3 months and no signs of ick. (knock on wood)
I put the live rock, coral and inverts in a rubbermaid tub. Put my T5's on the tub and just a regular light on the DT for light

thanks for your help i hypo the DT started today, how long do i leave it for
Did you read Beth's information on hyposalinity? If not then PLEASE do so. There are some very important steps that must be taken. To answer your question, you begin to count three weeks after the last spot of ich is gone.
