Tri Color Acro

Why is a tri-color acro called that? I just purchased a light colored one with neon green tips, i'll post a pic when i get home. Are there all different colors of this kind of acro? I've seen purple, blue, white. And what is the 'tri' in 'tricolor' referring to?

The tri is in reference to the three different colors. They usually have three different colors

That's what i figured, but I just haven't seen any with three colors.

the base is usually one color, tips another, then the polyps a 3rd color
i have a couple of tricolors
an example:base is yellow, tips are deep purple, and the polyps are electric green
a. valida, a. nana, a. cerealis, and some a. secales are all commonly known to show this kind of color morph. and, there are many more but those are the common ones.
