okay here is the water test from jacks!!

nitrate-2ppm
ammonia-0.25
There you go...any amount of nitrite or ammonia is highly toxic to fish and inverts. Those should be at absolute 0. This is what killed your fish. Petland obviously has no idea what they are doing. Demand your money back and take Jack's results with you.

Let it cycle...let that bacteria build itself up. Wait till nitrite and ammonia are at 0, then do a 25% water change.

Wow, sorry about that. Looks like that LFS needs some help! My guess is you will not get reimbursed, nor will you even get store credit.
Good luck with your new fish.

Don't give up that easy...you simply have not reached the right person. Get names of employees...especially the manager, then get on their website and figure out a contact number or way to reach the corporate level. Keep moving up the ladder until you get the answer you want. Every legitimate business wants to do good by their customer, unfortunately personal accountability is not a standard most will step up to. Go above their heads to one that will make them accountable. Usually an area manager will do the trick...if that is how they are set up. Most retail places are.

It is common for alot of lfs to keep there salinity at a lower level to keep there costs down. Between .024 to .026 is were you should be at. One of our lfs keeps there tanks at .021, therefore I aclimate for a little longer. It is important to know your lfs water readings so you can adjust and aclimate acordingly. Also like said before DO NOT put there water in your tank, Lots of lfs treat there tanks with copper.
Welcome to the boards and the adventure.

the gm of the store is the one denying! so i called the corprate office and this is the response i got! (sorry the gm runs his store however he wishes to run it) now thats good business sense...
i had gotten a 25 percent discount on the fish so they are saying that discounted items are not under warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
but maybe this all worked out the best this way cause it prompt me to find this website and i am learning alot more than the lfs cares to tell me..

There is areason why most fish stores do not issue refunds or credits. Because alot of people in this hobby don't know what they are doing. It's their fault you had ammonia in your tank, that's what killed them. Test, test, test, and research, research, research.

If I read this right you said you were going to pet**** If that is so don't give up without getting something back for your loss. Call the store in Chilicothe,OH ask for Brook tell here what went on and she will put you on the right path and tell you who to contact.
