what kind of trigger can go with a volitan. the lion is 6 to 7 inchs in a 125. i was thinking of either a niger or a blue throat male.

I am not sure but I believe you can use a niger, huma huma or picasso never a bluethroat trigger.

Other way around, Bluethroat, Sargassum, Crosshatch are best but Durgeon seems to work pretty well also, Niger and Pinktail are OK but have been known to turn on lions, keep an eye on them, watch the lions fins, "huma huma or picasso" are No No's.

I keep a niger with my V

Me too! I think Nigers are one of th most unappreciated fish we see. They aren't flashy in the LFS and don't photograph well. But they have tons of grace and personality, are inexpensive, beautiful with enough room and good lighting, and (usually) quite civilized.

the niger and blue throat are best. all others will eventually take the lion out.
probably ok with pink tail too.

Not true. Most triggers will NOT go with a lionfish.

This is another of those endless debates. You'll find plenty of folks with opposite experiences. Mine have been positive; my biggest problem was getting enough food to the Lion--had to wait for the trigger to fill himself. It all depends on the fish and their environment. Many triggers can be like pit-bulls; docile for years and snap overnight. Its your call; nothing is guaranteed in this hobby. But; be ready to get the trigger out if you need to.
