Nice pics, and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. The new Wild Reef wing is great, especially watching triggers swim in the surge zone when you first walk in.

The Shedd Aquarium is located right on the lakefront in Chicago, IL.

you are not joking either. The winds are extremely difficult right there. We were there once in the beginning of March and it was beyond freezing cold, the cold wind just cut right through you.

scribben: comparing the shedd with the newport aquarium is like comparing a 1976 datsun to a 2004 porsche (sp). the newport aquarium is in really bad shape. the reef tanks are full of aptaisa (sp) and they cant seem to keep any sharks alive (10 or 12 dead as of now). the shedd is a much better aquarium and well worht the trip.

I am already trying to plan my next trip there. We went with another couple that really know nothing about reefs so they just wanted to fly through everything and not take out time.
There is a line to get into the wild reef but do not leave without seeing it. There are atleast 15 more reef tanks down there along with there 340,000 gallon shark tank. The only thing i was disaponted with was there colors with there sps corals. All were brown or light green not alot of color.

thanks for the comparison joerdie. your in cincy by chance have you visited belterra casino? in indiana we have 2 8000 gallon aquariums (fish only). its kinda nice seeing those every day but i will definitely have to go to shedd very soon

If you are from Chicago, a little secret I will tell. Join the city library and you can get passes to all the museums, aquarium, planetarium for free. Just check them out and you're in for no $$$$.

well for fish only they are not bad
huge emporer angel lots of tangs , puffers ,look downs triggers and such we recently subbed out the contract on care and maintaining the system to cincy aquarium and our original aquarist wasnt all there we had a disaster last year cost about 30000 dollars. anyhow everything is all high tech but it still doesnt get the attention it needs ill post some pics soon
