ASSUMING YOU DID THE OBVIOUS AND TRIED YOU CAPS LOCK KEY
first, did you try another keyboard? it could possibly be aproblem in you keyboard.
if so, what antivirus program are you running, and when is hte last time you updated and ran a full scan?
another question, do you use pcanywhere?
the caps lock could also be on at the remote, causing your problem

well if you go to the website it has a list on the left side that says different viruses that you might have...didnt know if you went yet or not

Go here www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php and download avg 7.0. Save it to the hard drive. Then boot in safe mode, and install and check for virius. Get the name, write it down. Boot back into normal mode. Go here www.sarc.com/ and do a search for what trojen you have. They should have a removal tool. Download the tool, boot back into safe mode, and then run the tool. it should remove the trojan. PLEASE don't reformat your hhd yet. Email me at lkress@NOSPAMsocow.com before you do. Or browse to www.socow.com, this is one of my sites that i am working on. I should be able to get some virus stuff up tonight. Post back what kind of trojan it is. I find tool for you if need be.

I thought I had some kind of virus and went to this link about half way down I found a link to a free virus search called house call.com, I think its the second link listed there, here's the link with in that site I have dail up and it took forever to download--just a warning. It will scan your puter and if any virus is found it will let you know and how to delete if needed. HTH

as a so you know if its a trojan it can spread to lots of other folders and drives (if you have your hdd parred up). i had one and when i opened the file it was in, it spread to about 100 different folders and when i went into that folder it would change where it was. also alot of them have scripts build in so that anti-virus programs will scan over it, so it makes it hard to get rid of all of it. if you want to keep your info safe, i would wipe if i were you, but thats just me. if you use a credit card or anything online you better check them too. good luck, it sucks when that happens.

get Spybot Search and destroy Here and Adware Adware Both of these scans your pc and registry for Trojans, and spyware programs and removes them, without you having to re-format your hard drive. Anti Virus programs cannot detect Trojans and hidden spyware in some cases they can but then it will only quarrantine the suspicous file without deleting it.
Also look into getting a firewall if you don't already have one especially if you have broadband internet access.

Fishman you really didn't need to go to the extent of re-formatting your hard drive, as I clearly stated in my above post Anti Virus programs cannot rid your pc of Trojans or spyware
the 2 programs I suggested will rid your pc of trojans and such.
Since you are starting fresh with a re-formatted HD I suggest you go buy Norton Firewall 2004 it should run you about $45, if you don't want to do that download Zone Alarm Firewall Protection or here CNET
The reason I recommend you get firewall protection is due to the fact that a trojan and whatever else is on your pc which means your pc could have been remotely controlled or accessed by someone by coming thru open ports on your pc via Internet Explorer, Outlook and Outlook Express, and if you have File and Printer sharing enabled as well as other holes in Windows especially if you are on broadband...DSL, Cable, ect..
Also be aware of what you download and what sites you visit especially if you use Kazaa since it has spyware written in it's software
