well where do u live???
my big brother owns shepards autobody and is the #6 custom and detail painter in MI (gordie ramlow)..i also work for him
if u live any where around MI i might be able to hook u up, a lil advice though do the body filler and sanding yourself its not that hard and most places will rip u off!

Do you have any idea on what a average paint job would be?
And does color really play a big part in the price?
Thanks a lot,
Jim

Well its an older truck, 1985 GMC sierra. The top half is tan an the lower half is a brownish color - yes very ugly. I want to get it all pained black. I just redid the ******** and now working my way to the exterior.

Are you getting any tight flames or grafics down the side? Balck would be the best color. I think blakc trucks look the best.

nice choice...black is also the cheapest color
so u are doin a complete color change do the sanding and body work/filler your self its time consuming but wont burn a hole in your pocket...

well depending on the brand of paint....it shouldnt really matter its all pretty much the same, at my shop we use PPG but it doesnt matter just go to a auto saler or like hardwere and give it a go

I own a Auto Body Shop and Never slap Bondo (Body Filler) on rust. In short time it will just bubble through the Body Filler. You need to A. Sandblast the rust and remove in from your truck. Or B. if the rust is that bad you need to cut it out and add a metal patch and weld it in.
Also when your painting black just think Black is the toughest color to keep clean but when done correct it will look great. Bad body work will ALWAYS show through on Black. When it comes to cost and color RED is very pricey. PPG and Dupont are very good products my shop use's both. Just make sure the paint or clear you use can be wet sanded when it's dry and tell the guy doing not to cheese out on the paint. The more paint or clear on the truck the more it can be wetsanded to get any mistakes out. If they cheese out on the paint it makes it thin thus less to sand mistakes out and sometimes the shop will have to repaint a section because of the puffer burning into the paint. With black thats not to much of a problem because it will match but other colors it can get hard because you have to blend into another section.

Ok, thats a lot. I am still undecided on what to do....I think I could have my friends dad sut away the rust and weld new sections of metal on there.
Man Lionfish, people are really working you latly
