does it do it at night when the lights are out or does it do it all the time? if its at night, they are just probably sleeping, as long as they are eating and active, they should be good. how long have they been in your tank?

few days...they are eating just fine, they are very active, but they just stay on the surface of the tank. i guess they are just new.

If they are new or juveniles, it's probably normal. My black percs did it for about a month after I got them (both new and juvi). It kinda freaked me out because they would end over by my over flow and I was afraid they end up in my sump or worse as sushi after getting sucked into my skimmer.

I had to scoop one out of the back section of my nano last night....went to check my tank before shutting off the moon lights for the night, and had a clown missing.....found him in the back....I got him out and put him back into the main part of the tank...I dont know how he got there, he had to jump, weird little clown...

The rear chambers are notorius for capturing your fish in a nano. I had a Midas Blenny that met its end by doing that. 3 times it escaped death by jumping into the left or right chamber. The last time.. not so lucky.. it landed on the middle chamber and basically turned into a raisin.
I have 2 true percs that were introduced to my tank last night but for some reason do not show any of the "typical" signs of a new fish in a tank, they seem perfectly at home and even seem to be fond of my torch coral already. But my guess would be that yours is just getting used to its environment.
