I think you mean trumpet coral, which I believe is the same thing as a candy can. They need moderate flow and light and will eat shrimp. I have a large one in my tank, very easy to care for.

I haven't had mine for long but they have moderate light in my tank 4.5 watts per gallon PC. They extend their feeder tenticles at night and I have tried to spot feed with meaty food but they don't respond. I think they get most of their nutrients from the light. They are looking good, wish I had a pic. HTH Good luck with yours

Mine likes to be about middle of the tank, with low/medium flow, and eats phyto. At night his sweeper tenticles and all the other ones come out, looks cool. Fairly easy to take care of, havn't had any issues with mine. Never heard of anyone offering them meaty foods.

Trumpet coral AKA candy cane coral - actually Caulastrea (CAWL - ass - TREE - uh)
Medium lighting and current demands
Mostly photosythetic - for supplement treat as filter feeder - tentacles will come out after
lights out. I have two groups with flourescent geen centers and blood red margins.

the tenticles have a strong sting and can harm other corals but they dont extend but an inch or two. I wouldn't worry about the fish.
here's a pic of mine with tenticles out after flicking the lights on

That is a gorgeous picture. I often wondered about the length of their tenticles. Thanks for sharing!
:happyfish Is that a brittle star to the right of the mushrooms--just the legs?

don't let anything touch the heads, while they are considered hardy they will quickly die if anything is near them. I have killed a few this way.
also, if you spot feed them with cyclopeeze and or mysis, it will bring out their tenticles during the daytime

You absolutely SHOULD offer it meaty foods at least every now and then. Here is mine when I first brought it home, then 3 months later with the help of cyclop-eeze. All LPS's will take meaty foods such as cyclop-eeze, brine, mysis, even silversides!

The feeders will come out during the day while you are actually feeding them, they will not always stay out. They stay out at night if the coral is healthy. When I first got mine, I did not see it's feeders until after about the third time I fed it. I try to feed mine about once a week although they do not need quite that much. I like mine to grow since I make a killin' off of the frags.

Cyclop eeze and brine shrimp is what I feed mine at night though..,.

Thanks Tizzo, I knew I wasn't off my rocker with the meaty food thing. Do you squirt it at them when their tenticles are out or do you place it on eat head with your fingers or feeding prongs??????

Mine has feeders that are nearly six inches long. Weird, huh? Took me by surprise anyway. But anyway, I feed mine mysis quit often and he's loving it. I just let the food stick to their head and watch them swell up around it, really cool. One of my absolute favorites!

I've had mine for about 4 years, feed it for two years and then never feed it again. In the past couple of years it's split at least 5 time with another split on the way. The head on the bottom left is showing it's most recent but not complete.
