I have a Marineland 29 gallon long with the "Eclipse 3" Filtration/Lighting hood. The filtration is a combination of a carbon pad (Type H), probably 10" x 3" x 1" deep, which the water is supposed to flow through and then into a biowheel.
Well, that all worked fine, and I replaced it once a month, until I added LR.
Now with all the extra stuff running around and getting sucked up, the filter is 'full' after 2 weeks, and I have to replace it. This is starting to get frustrating and expensive.
My thought was that I might be able to do a mod like is done to a nano, where the filter is replaced with LR rubble.
1. Has anyone out there ever done it?
2. Does anyone have advice as to whether I should keep part of the chamber as a 'sponge' filter, or just put LR rubble through the whole chamber?
3. What size rubble? Quarter? Dime? Pea?
