Tunze 6000

I'm a little confused as to how many of the Tunze Turbelle 6000s I will need for a 75g sps tank. The site says 1 will be all I need along with a single controller, but I'm thinking that 2 will be better?

the more flow the better in a SPS tank. you may want to look at seios istead to save a couple hundred $$$.

ditto that. I have a 75 that I'm turning into a mixed reef but stocked mostly with SPS. I looked at all the pumps and wavemakers out there and thought long and hard about it. I ended up getting two seio1500's along with the seio control that ramps the power heads up and down, the effect on my 75 is outstanding, constantly changing, strong, multidirectional flow. I am VERY happy I went the route that I did and you should consider them... they are a bit big though- doesn't bother me but it may some.

I actually have a couple of the seios laying around, yes they are big. But I didn't realize they had a controller. This could save me some serious cash, like around $500.

Crap, my seios are 860's the controller only works on 1100's 1500's 2600's
Hum, let see. 2 seio 1100's @ $62 each and the controller is $169 = $293
Tunze Turbelle 6000's @ $259 each and the controller is $761
Wow, thats like $468 more for the tunze, I could upgrade my skimmer and get a Kalk reactor/stirrer for the amount. Guess I'm going with the seio's.
I've had the 860's on just about every tank I've setup and never had a problem, yeah there bulky but after a few months of coraline algae buildup they kinda blend in..

bulky yeah... but man, those two 1500's really push the water around my sps 75!!!!!!! I love it!~ the tunze look nice too but...I'm on a budget.

So you went with the 1500's, I was thinking about getting the 1100's as that puts me at 29x waterflow and I need to factor in the sump pump which is like 800gph. Combined that would put me at around 40x, isn't that a little high ir would the sps love it?

HA...Just found the seio controller for $129 and ordered it....You know anything about Kalk Stirrers

Well, I don't know what the experts will tell you but I will say this. I've read that some hard core sps junkies have 60+ times turnover in their tanks and I thought hmmm... that sounds cool. I've had sps for a while, and they have lived and even grown a little but now with this set up I have they are thriving- bushed out more than ever before and I have been able to see growth in a short amount of time. My fish don't seem to mind it - in fact, now after adding these pumps my domino damsels are laying eggs! My tank is cleaner than ever before and all in all it looks better than ever. With my pumps on 100% I have about 50X turnover an hour. With the controler though they aren't on 100% all the time, they ramp up and down from 50% to 100% back and forth every 15 seconds. The current that this produces is quite chaotic to say the least, but I love it- my water evaporates a little faster now though due to all the surface turbulence- I have to believe that is good though, must help gas exchange a great deal.

I don't know much about them.. I top off with kalkwasser frequently but I do it the old fashioned way and measure/mix by hand. I like to piddle around with all that stuff- it's fun to me. The hobby is getting to the point where if you have the money you can automate almost everything but I don't know if that is really always better...

I've always been the same way, liked making things, checking levels, never wanted to much complicated equipment. But now, I'm so busy with work and other things that it makes sense. I've resisted the urge to go high tech for about 15 years, but now I have no choice.... Plus I have my eye on some really scarce sps frags and I want optimum growth and water conditions for $100 frags that are 1"

I think I'm going to go with the 1500's extra flow can't hurt. You ever do frag swaps? I've got a 125 thats loaded with the livestock for this tank and I'm about to start fragging some of the purple and green monti's and I have frags of these gems. My purple rain is growing between 1/8 and 1/4 inch a month......Can't wait to frag these...

I've promised myself not to ever buy any more corals, trade frags only!! (I can try anyways) I have some nice stuff but with the proper set up only going for a short while now I still have to wait a bit for my sps to get big enough to frag. I have a nice purple acro that is big enough, my yellow scroll isn't quite yet...some other acros also but not as colorful...just met another guy at work with a tank full also- great, he has a bunch I don't have and vs. so that will be fun! In the future if you should ever want to try a frag swap via the mail give me a hollar!

Trust me, it's going to be a while before these guys get fragged, the purple rain is really surprising, it's growing like crazy. The scarlet is just kinda sitting there, look cool, but not much growth...
