Bought 2 the same day.One was up and running in an hour, and the other didn't move for 2 days. The one wont move for 2-3 hours after a water change even now.

It might be in shock from a change of salinity and may not survive, snails are very sensitive to salinity and must be acclimated to a tank slowly.

I agree that all snails are different as far as movement. You are right on one thing when they die if you take a sniff you know it. When I have a new one that does not move within 2 to 3 days I will remove it and touch the end with a object to see if the flap moves if not a very slight pressure on the flap then a sniff and you will know. Sounds like I am in to snails but not really just have had many of them and expect to have about 3/4 live in the beginning.

maestro,
did you take the snails and acclimate them properly? if not there is a good chance your is stressed and could die. always acclimate everything before putting it into your tank. i bought a cleaner shrimp once and didn't acclimate it properly and it died about an hour later.......so please please please do not make the same mistake i made. :D

You said that the water wa perfect. I'm assuming then that your phosphates are near zero. I had this same thing happen to two different sets of three snails. I wasn;t testing for phosphates ate the time. All other water test were perfect. I discovered that I had high phosphates at the time. Made the adjustments and haven't had any problems since.

I bought two turbo snails a few weeks ago. One moved right away and the other moved a couple of hours later. But~ the one that moved first was caught by a hermit crab and got eaten!!!
This is not really related to the question but I just wanted to share.

well the snails dead now i just got an expensive shell. i went and bought another one to day that at least is moving his little suction cup type thing. thanks for your guys help this time i aclimitized him real good the only thing is when went to take him out the bag exploded that sorta freaked me out for a second but everything looks good
thanks again for your guys help :)

lol about the bag exploding. Hopefully the snail is ok, he should be. Since you acclimated this time a little better than before, your snail is probably going to be fine. :D :D

A little trick I want to share based on the above post about the breaking bag. I always hated working with the bags from the lfs. A few years ago I bought a small lunch type cooler and also a small critter cage, a large critter cage, and a couple of plastic type round food containers with lids. Since then when I buy a fish, coral, snail, whatever I have it put in the appropriate container for the journey home in the closed cooler (light can be stressful to fish being moved). I also bought a 2 gallon plastic pail and lid at Ace Hdw and use this for liverock and larger fish that way I bring them home and can drip them from the tank they are going in as a one step process. Now I might point out that the 3 lfs I normally use are at the furthest less then one half hour from my home so that gives me a lot of time lee way.
