Yup. while in the actuall unit the water is bombarded with UVB and UVA light waves killing most of the live suspended matter like algaes or parasites (it will also kill pods) depending on the flow rate. theg faster the water goes through the unit the less it kills. in other words using a PH bigger than the reccomended size for the unit is going to make it less effective not more.
