Im thinking....
what if I only used one sheet that is fed off of one of my overflows? this sheet feeds into the area that my fuge sits in my sump. I would have to replace the bulkhead on the tank to accomodate a larger diameter pipe, but if it helps even a little....
can you post a pic of your sump, maybe we can give you some ideas once we see your setup.

Yes, some where on the mega-thread is a how-to on using the overflow as the feed. Basically build it like you would a regular ATS, just connected to the overflow, but there will have to be some by-pass that, in case the ATS clogs, the overflow will just flow out the end into the sump. Basically instead of an endcap, you'd just run more PVC past the ATS.
my setup is from an overflow, but i used an endcap. I am going to change the endcap to an upward j then back down into the sump. Just too busy with other things to finish it.

heres some pics of where it would have to go. measurements are rough estimates taken quickly with a measuring tape.

A little fun fact, plants and algae do not produce waste! The only product is Oxygen, which is not really "waste". That's unless you want to count growth as a product? If you are competent in your pruning, the algae will not die off. I do not understand how Oxygen (which coincidentally helps raise pH) is a bad thing?
So, my question. Why the vendetta against SM?
Because something is fishy about Santa Monica. Why blast 10 different forums with the same thread? Then you get the wild claims and rediculous before and after photos. It is like painting a bulls eye on your back.
Personally I ran one for a few months. Imo it was just a mess. I still don't understand why creating one area for algae to grow will prevent it from growing in another area. And in my case it didn't. However my water parameters were great. However for me I really didn't have the space to begin with. And it was just making a big mess. Interestly enough, shortly after I pulled that off, all my chaeto died. After growing faster than ever with the turf.
As for the O2, one man's waste is another man's treasure...

salt210. You have a perfect setup to make one where your chaeto is at. You can build it slanting the screen like this /
there are a few threads with your exact design.
Goodluck.
i ordered some new lights online, they should be here soon and they were cheap, $6 for CFL floods. They are 2700k. The ones i am currently using are 5100k CFL floods.
My screen is really starting to turn brown after 10 days now.

if I ran it off of the overflow that is shown in the picture would I have to use a T in the PVC? I am trying to find a source to see my type of system but having a hard time.

found one on the first link. now I would just have to figure out the diameter of the PVC that I would need to get.

I'll give you that. I didn't really read SM's original thread. I just found it ironic that PEZ was willing to give SM a tounge lashing, yet when someone says something about him, he pouts and cries about it (note the Dane Cook thread).

I doubt I'll ever set one up. But there seems to be a few people on SM's thread that have had success.

You're absolutely right. Though O2 doesn't hurt an aquarium.
