Diatoms are very common at the point you are at.
Looking good, what holds the screen in that pipe?

i thought thats what everyone was doin. if i was to use zip tie's i would not be able to get it off every time i would have to disconnect it every time. how did you do it? its still early i could just trim the top off completely and do something different.

I'm not saying it won't work, but i wouldnt be surprised if it sags out that screen gets pretty heavy.
I zip tied mine to the pipe and I just take the pipe out of the elbows (not glued in) and wash the pipe and the screen, screen stays in the pipe all the time.
If your way works I actually wouldnt mind doing that instead because the zip ties disperse water in places you don't want your water to go when it hits the screen in that area.

since the 3rd so 6 days. i cleaned it all off on day 4, pretty much all diatom's. then today i checked it after work and it's getting small patches of gha so i will wait til day 8 or 9 to clean it again, and see what i have then. i don't have a phosphate test (never have) and i don't ever test for nitrates. but i have noticed a difference in how my corals are acting already! it is prob a lot to do with my ph because i never had a night time light cycle, and it's prob startin to work on nitrates and phosphates. plus i started dripping kalk but thats beside the point to this thread
