Turning 13 soon! Got a ?

I know it's been a while since I last posted but I've been lurking around here. i jus wanted to say that on the 16th of Jan. I will be turning thirteen and I have a question. When I turn 14 I will have the choice of either a dog or a salty tank. I am not a dog person and i,ve kept fish 4 5years now so I need to know just how hard it would be.
thanks,
Nadia

if you spend the next year researching it wont be hard at all. most of the problems people have are from lack of knowledge.

Thanks!:)
I have actually been researching salty fish for about a year now. I supposedly became obsessed with salt water fish for a looonngg time.(i won'y have any of it, after all, what's wrong with a good healthy obsession....)
Anyways, I guess school work isn't as important as fish..... hehe;) :D

hmm im 15 so iknow ur situation, the only problem that might hurt u is lack of money, knowledge and patience. Knowledge and patience are most important whereas u can play around with money.

Anywho, the only dog I would want would be a red standard poodle and around here(Near seattle Wa), they cost any where from 1000- 10,000 dollars and I;m serious, I saw one in the newspaper!!

Try to get your parents involved in the idea of a saltwater tank. Show them some pictures and try to get them to go to a good LFS with some good show tanks, you may even get them hooked. I would plan the tank in a part of the house everyone will enjoy that way they won't tell you no when you say you need something for the tank. Also if you can plan out what you want (size, type of tank, equipment), you can buy a little bit at a time and space out the expenses. Good luck it is an addicting hobby.

the parents thing is a great idea. I think my parents are starting to like SW more than i do. I come to town and my dads asking me to go to the fishstore. When i move back to the DFW area (1.5 yrs) ill be buying a larger tank, and my parents will probaby start a tank of their own. If then i like something in their tank ill just take it:D , gotta love parents.

I wish I had got into this hobby a lot sooner than I did. It is interesting creating a whole little environment and watching it grow and flourish. If you are truely interested and do the correct research it will be fun not difficult.

Hey, if I were your age, and my parents said ummmm dog or tank? Tank all the way!!! Much better, at least the fish dont use your carpet as a ummmm...."litter box" for lack of a better word. Here's a pic of my new christmas present "none litter box" dork dog, dont he look innocent? HA---bad dog! fish good! LOL

Well, thanks lots and I think you're all right about the tank thing. I will be taking them to the LFS this weekend as a birthday present. BTW Lebowski, you are rich for your age, But, in WA. a kid can stort work(real work) when they are fourteen so I guess when I turn fourteen I'll be getting a job at the LFS. LOL
Thanks all,
Nadia
P.S. I didn't know that there were sooo many young salt junkies! WOW:eek: ;)

is it just me or does it seem like Lebowski and clownfish have a thing for each other. Shes already askin' about his financial situation and such.
PS: watch out lebowski they will take it all!!!!!!!

Ha Ha Ha*forces a laugh*
Like, you know, whatever.;)
Seriously, I don't date salt junkies. It gets too confusing when you're at his house and he says "you know, you are beautiful" and you don't know if he's talking to you or the tank!;) :D  :p
BTW TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!
YIPPEE!!! nOW i CAN CHANGE THE BIRTHDATE TO MINE INSTEAD OF MY MOMS!:p
Thanks,
Nadia

My first tank was a 30 gallon. All I had was a few damsels and a trigger. All I can say is do lots of research and maybe start out small and slow as I did. When you learn the basics and can keep a FO tank up and running well then slowly move up. Just having this taught me a lot such as proper salinity, water circulation, filtration, fish behavior and compatibility. How to feed what to feed and so on.
