turning off sump at night

Do you mean you would turn of the pump and have no water flow at night.
If this is what you are saying then I would say no its not a good idea.

because im very new to this and diy my sump system and are affraid of waking up to a flood to put it honestly ty for posting

U just gotta give it a try... Stay up one night and make sure nothing happens... And whenever u wake up in the night check on it to make sure everything is good

don't worry about them they won't they only go a little bit above the water surface and thats it and post some pix its always nice to see new set ups

Don't sweat. Even if your pump goes off by some freak accident, your overflow can't get water past a certain point and the sump should be able to handle a little extra water volume.
