Two weeks into cycle after adding live rock....

So, I added my live rock in the tank on the 10th and I tested my water again today. The first tests were taken on Friday because I just got the salifert tests. Here are my results from today:
Ammonia: .25 mg/L
Nitrate: 5 ppm
Nitrite: .1 ppm
pH: 8.3

So, I'm guessing either my nitrites have already risen and dropped, or haven't risen yet. Not sure where my numbers are supposed to be at the point, so that's why I'm posting.
Anyways, the rock in my tank is now covered with diatoms and the sand is starting to get some, and the sides of the tank is starting to get some diatoms on it also. Everything appears to be going according to schedule, just wanted to post my results.

It sucks waiting for your tank to cycle doesn't it? It is very important not to rush things, and yours seems to be going smoothly. as for the diatoms... did you use tap water? After your tank cycles you could get a clean up crew to take care of those for ya. I am guessing your nitrites are going to go up before they go down. Mine went up until my ammonia was at zero, then started to drop.

I'm using distilled water for the moment, until I can afford to pick up a RO/DI unit.
Yah it sucks to wait, but I know if I'm patient now and take my tests and wait for everything to hit zero, it'll be mostly smooth sailing from there. Hell, I've been on this board for about 2 years just reading and dreaming.
I've been planning the cleanup crew. I was hoping to get an emerald crab and some turbo snails and my wife has been eyeing up a gold coral banded shrimp. Anything else you would suggest or would that do the trick for me?
As far as the rock, I've got 10lbs. Don't have any live sand at the moment. Someone advised that I add it after my cycle is over or some of the organisms will get killed during the cycle, so I'll add it when my cycle is done.

I wouldn't add anything, including inverts, until the ammonia is absent.
