Ok, the way it works is when the flow is stopped on the output the valve shuts off the flow to the membrane.

so if you have, say a float valve for auto shut-off on your holding tank were your feeding to when the float closes and stops the flow then the shut-off valve stops flow to the membrane. Hope that makes sense.

I am thinking about getting this unit. I had a Coralife Pure Flo before that didnt work and in the manuel it said that if you dont use the unit for 30 days or more, the membrane will dry out and you will have to replace it. Does this also apply to the typhoon III?

I have not seen anything for the typhoon thats states that, You would think that there is water that would be trapped in it and not be able to dry out, and even if for some reason it did it should not hurt the unit, it's dry when we get them, the only thing that they say on the typhoon is that if it sets for a few days or longer run it for a few minutes before saving the water, maybe from setting up there may be a chance of some TDS build up I'm guessing.

If you are using a storage container you will need the float valve to stop the water flow then the back pressure will make the automatic shutoff valve work. Otherwise you could use a simple cutoff valve to stop the water from flowing. Basically you need something to stop the water flow so the backpressure in the line will make the membrane in the shutoff valve work. HTH

Where can you get a float valve that will work for this unit?

I got mine from the same place I bought the unit, can't really say were on here, but a lot of places have them, there just a simple float shut-off, about $12.

I talked to Don yesterday and he cut me a deal on shipping. Not much but more than he had to. I was pleased with his service.
