I have a powerhead 808 in my 200 gal tank. I think there is an orange or yellow lever knob thing which you can move one way or another to increas/decrease the flow rate. one is for controlling flow. the other is for reversing flow. I forget which is which. maybe you can slow your powerhead enough with this adjustment. Other wise you will need a ball valve like everyone has said to hold down the output from your pump. otherwise you can get a smaller gph powerhead or pump, but usually the ball valve method is more preferable.

by the way ball valves are in home depot pvc department. you can get nipples to glue in to attach your tubing to. the ball valve should be placed after the output of the pump. Then you can partially close the ball valve and this will slow the output from your pump to the tank.
