do i need to heat my saltwater while it ages?? i got it to perfect specific gravety and i was wondering if i need to heat it to get the correct specific gravity. in other words does heat matter?
Most plain form hydrometers are calibrated at 60F. As water temp rises/falls the calibration temp, your salinity readings will be slightly altered.
For example, if your measured SG @ 68F(20C) was 1.000 then the actual SG @68F is 1.000 + 0.0007 = 1.0007, at 77F it is 1.0000 + 0.0018 = 1.0018.
However, check with the manufac. to check the temp it was calibrated at.
Good Luck
