Umbrella Mushroom?

Sorry to be a pain, but I cannot find out any info on this guy!
I need to know where to place him in my tank. Water flow/lighting/etc.

I have heard people talk about "umbrella corals" but I've got no idea what exactly they are....try a search and see what you find...or maybe describe it so I can see if it maybe goes by a different name....I've always assumed they were a type of sarcophyton(mushroom coral/leather)...if thats the case...moderate current/moderate lighting.....suppliment feeding with DT's phyto plankton......my sarcophyton does well in these conditions.....IF that is the type of coral you are concerned about.

toadstool leather......aka...umbrella leather.........conditions close to what I mentioned above should be good.....

Hey dad I have one of the umbrella mushrooms from the UBI section and it IS NOT an umbrella leather!!....It is a mushroom it is like most other mushrooms and will except most conditions...I think it is sometimes refered to as an Elephant Ear Mushroom!.....more to come!

I also have a pic of my "umbrella mushroom" in my tank on my website....it is in the center of the first pic and its like a huge mushroom that is like a green and fleshy color..sorry no close up!

So...which one is it that you have? Just curious...I hear folks mention their umbrella mushroom/coral...but I've never actually figured out what one is....so many names!!!???!!!

I received 2 umbrella mushrooms from this site about 2 months ago. I placed them in the middle of my tank with low-moderate flow on some rocks. They both ended up jumping off and slowly crawled in-between my rocks. I haven't seen them since. I'm not sure but from my experience they seem to like the shade. The picture is definitely not an umbrella mushroom. It looks like a leather. Check some old posts for further info.

Well on my previous post I gave causious corals elephant ear mushroom pic link and my site with my umbrella mushroom pic (center first larg pic) and I have come to believe that the umbrella mushroom is an elephant ear mushroom....striker did you look at my sit and see the pic or at the causious coral site.....what pic are you refering to....Well from what I have exprienced my "umbrella mushroom" loves the light.....I have it right under my MH and it doesn't seem to bother it.....i hope my info helps......like i said see my privious post on the topic for the pics!

The pic I was refering to was the one above from ff express. I've checked out several links but still haven't found specific info or pictures on the umbrella mushroom. My mushrooms must have come from a darker light source because they hated the light. I can't even see them anymore.

The umbrella mushroom they are talking about in the UBI section is Discosoma Neglecta. I got a pair as part of a SWF cleanu p crew package in substitution for a cucumber. Took me a few days to figure out what it was because SWF didn't label it and the mushrooms were closed up end to end. I described it to people on the board as a cannoli with green filling and nobody knew what the heck I was talking about, ha ha.
I'm not sure how they will fare given the right conditions. Unfortunately, I ignorantly placed them in a high flow area not in the shade and they died a couple weeks later while I was out of town.
As far as looks go, they were OK. Certainly not the most beautiful invert I've seen. The disk is a slightly irridescent green, and the stubby tentacles are a dull red. Not as attractive as it sounds.

OK, got my delivery!
It is what "Deucey" has.(and thanks for the pic).
I do not know why they call it a mushroom. Looks more like a green radish,lol
I placed it 1/2 way up the rocks and it tried to disapear. So I replaced it at the top of my tank under high lighting and moderate to high water flow. I'm not really sure if this is right or not?
I'm hoping that it opens up more. Time will tell I guess.
I have a website that I will open up soon and show pics of it.
I hope to give out more info on it also.
Still do not know why they call it a umbrella.

Personally I would keep it in high light.....low to moderate current!....that is where mine is and it seems to like it.....I hope it does well for ya and good luck.....HAPPY REEFING!!
