***** unbelievable!

So I received some gift certificates for ***** and decided to "special" order a blue tang from them. Gave the fish guy very specific instructions to call me as soon as their fish shipment arrived, leave the tang in the bag, and I'd be there in 20 minutes or so to pick it up.
Well, shipment day came and after not receiving a call I called them. Turns out the fish didn't look well so they decided to dump it in their tank anyways. Reason being they wanted the fish to try to recover so it wouldn't die on me when I took it home. ***** has no gaurantee on salt fish and they didn't want me to be out the money. Sounded reasonable and I could accept that.
What I couldn't believe is when I went down there the next day to check out the fish it was lying on it's side gasping in a small tank while 3 gigantic yellow tangs and one huge harlequin sweetlips kept swimming over and nudging it. I asked the fish guy if he couldn't move it to one of the many empty tanks so maybe it wouldn't be so stressed out with the other big fish swimming around it. His reply was:
"Oh no, those yellow yellow tangs are actually helping him get better. He'll be alright and I'll give you a call when he's ready to go."
Well, I called later in the week to check on the status of the fish. The fish guys reponse: "Oh yeah, it died"

Yet another reason why you don't go to *****...That's like going to Fry's for all your computer needs...
They wouldn't know their head from a hole in the ground

I know you wrote, there is no gaurantee but since you never took possesion of the fish and they did not follow your instructions, did you get the money back?

I have a ***** story from today. I asked for an Orange Shoulder tang, months ago. The guy called me last week while I was in Florida on vacation. I had to go there today because the hampster was kind of stiff when we got home. Anyhow. I asked him to feed the tang and it looked really good, ate well and everything. (I was shocked it was still there). I had him bag up two freshwater fish while I went to the other side of the store. To get the hampster and some other stuff. When I got back I had him bag the tang. I go to check out and I have the twins with me so they are going all different directions. Anyhow I swipe my credit card and off i go. I checked the receipt and she charged me for three freshwater fish $1.49 each and no salt. I got two fresh water fish and 1 salt. I called them and they said not to worry about it since they have so many that normally die.
He is in my 55 gallon QT currently and is eating like a champ.

We actually get ALL of our computer stuff from Fry's. But hubby is a bithead so he builds his own. Laptops are only from Dell.

Check out the Fry's return line sometime - longer than the checkout line. They have a lot of stuff, and a lot of it is substandard. They put returns back out on the shelves too. Don't get me wrong...I love Fry's. I'm like a kid in a candy store going there. But they sell a lot of faulty products.

You have heard the saying "Friends dont let friends buy music at Wal-Mart"? Well, Friends dont let friends buy fish from *****........or any other "Pet Chain Store" where either kids or idiots run the store.

I was there a few days ago too. They had about 50 clowns in one tank. In one tank they had a panther grouper lying on its belly on the dirty sand. This one guy came in and bought a mandrin goby for his 10 gallon with crushed coral and a UGF. Not even a piece of live rock. I looked at him like he was an idiot but he still bought it.:(

hey...be careful with the whole "pet chains where kids and idiots run the place." It may be the mainstay but it is not always the case. I work in a "pet ware house" and I may be classified as a kid by some (21 tomorrow) but am faaar from an idiot. I am a biology major that graduated with honors in the top ten of my class (highschool.) ***** is a bad place to buy livestock, they have had their bird and small animal licenses revoked in some locations, but please don't paint everybody with the same brush.
Sorry I went off, but I get realllly tired of being treated like an idiot by customers that come in with that same attitude.

we have a ***** here with a large Reef tank display and the inhabitants inside seems really happy. One of the store helper said "we have 3 saltwater experts in the store." Maybe they really have some hobbists who really know what they are doing working there. Their inverts are much cheaper than most LFS anyway....

A couple of years ago I went off at ***** for treating their fish badly, and I'm glad I did, they got rid of all of their SWF after that.
I went in one day and asked them where their SWF were. They said "we took your advice and got rid of the SWF" They also commented it saved them big bucks, since they always died.

quite amazing indeed.....I have been working in a corporate pet store for 2.5 years, and still haven't managed that sort of feat. Kinda like breeding shrimp, huh? You have such wonderful luck.

that and fish stores anticipate losses thus they can write off fish deaths...so really it costs them nothing to loose fish. (that is, after all, why many treat their fish so cruddy--not monetary reason to exert the extra effort--and in fact it costs them more to work harder at it ie more employees with better training etc...)

***** doesnt seem that bad. Of course i would never expect or ask for advice from any of their employees about SW tanks, but they have reasonable livestock prices. My local ***** has tank raised percula clowns of good size for $14.99. They are a good bit more expensive at the other fish stores in my area.

the point is not the livestock price, its the way they keep their ttanks and fish.
Also, today i was in a ***** type swf store, and in a 30 gallen tank they had a sea apple the size of a soft ball, along with about 6 clowns, a lta, a seabe, mushrooms, and a dying leather coral. Since their tanks arnt very good, ugf and cc, and no lights, i told the worker that when the sea apple gets stressed, it will kill all the fish in the tank, but i dont think he listened to me.
