Hmmm, wonder if they will do something for the people on Medicare advantage accounts who are getting the rug pulled out from under them.

I stand behind my original post (my first post here) on this topic.

The point is, the bill, would have forced thousands of the "poor" burger flippers out on their rears. If by a wiggle of his nose obama didn't allow them to keep their insurance by exempting these companies insurance plans from the bill's regulations... (and it is only for a year)

Don't forget the people that have been paying for insurance for YEARS but were dropped last month so the carriers wouldn't have to insure their children. I mean, think about it, isn't it a lot better that nobody in the family be covered if your 23 year old son isn't covered?

Again if this had been a FAIR reform the insurance companies would have been allowed to recoup some of their costs. You want to insure jr until 26 great but after 23 the premium goes up. Have to cover pre existing conditions great but when the insured receives treatment for that condition the co pay is higher.
People amaze me. They lose sight of the fact all this stuff costs money. Someone has to pay for it. I don't think it's asking too much that those who use more services pay at least a little bit more for them.

Just saw where Obama's HHS secretary claimed their would be more Medicare Advantage choices next year. When called on it the agency, rather than saying she was wrong, misspoke, lied etc. went in and altered the text of the speech on the government web site. Change you can believe in.

I'm interested in how all this is going to affect direct patient care.
If hospitalization was bad before.... just wait.

It would be interesting for someone in the "industry" to track the changes to their job. I'd bet the ones who will really see the difference will be those with administrative duties that have to maintain the paper trail. People who accept Medicare and Medicaid patients will see a lot more people, that much we know.

My brother is saying that they're having all sorts of shortages on basic medical supplies at his hospital. He says the purchaser attributes it to the manufacturer shutting down plants, because they don't think they're going to get the returns once obama's destroy-the-insurance-industry bill goes full blast.

We are getting prepped all the time at work. Making sure we understand all the changes and when they'll be implemented.
My hospital is going to be screwed.
One thing that is funny is that we now have an "Obama Value Team". They look at the products we already have and are looking for cheap replacements. Our new tape doesn't stick to itself..... ur IV catheters bend and when they do they then have little breaks in them.... it goes on and on and on.
Our plan..... if you use to stay for 5 days, you'll now be staying for 3.8. That's where we are really planning on saving our money.
I wonder how nosocomial infections are going to be dealt with in my specific unit. My patients don't have immune systems yet. There are always infections ikn my unit and under the plan, we'll have to absorb the cost of that. That's definitly not right, IMO. I work in the NICU.

My oldest daughter spent her first 2 weeks of life in NICU with good people like yourself. We had to pass a little infant CPR class before they would release her. I couldn't do what you guys do. Thank you.

Cranberry try being ME. Try being on Medicare. My Doctor Closed her Practice to ALL Medicare Patients including those she HAD. I can not get a NEW Doctor in my town at ALL. Since my Job fell thru I moved back to my hometown there are Zero Docs Accepting NEW Medicare Patients at all and 90% of the people in this town are on MEDICARE that need a NEW DPCTPR because ours either DIED OR LEFT TOWN.

Have you looked into medicare advantage plans where you live? If you get into a HMO or PPO network with it you will be able to find a doc. You can search on the Medicare website by zip code. Of course in a couple years the Medicare Advantage accounts will be dropped by Obama care but maybe by then something will be done about the doc shortage.
I am fortunate enough to be in the position to bail out of medicare and plan on doing it starting in January. Fortunately I am so healthy it's sick other than my disability issues which are covered for life from the worker's comp insurance. My wife's insurance currently will cost me 48 bux a month where I pay 98 now for about the same level of coverages. I don't see any reason to hang in the Medicare system any longer.

Thing is I am on a Fixed Income as I am on Disability do a Very severe case of Epilepsy. Around here for me a Nuerologist is a 2 hour drive to Chicago. See I have Multiple Medical Conditions related to my Medical condtion TBI caused Epilepsy. I am a Double Stroke Survivor also so my case can only be dealt with a Specialist. So I have fun getting one that will see me. Medicare Advantage for me would be about 400 a MONTH my Mortage payment is 550 a month. So I would rather stay in my House than loose it so I can have an upgraded health care plan. For me it is all about cost. I might ask my mother if her doctor will take me on.

I'm not saying the old system worked. I'm saying the new intented plan sucks from a hospital point of view.
We are going to be given a lump sum for each diagnosis to spend as we will. Any thing that costs over that amount will be absorbed by the hospital. The nosocomial infection factor is going to kick our butts. I can think of maybe 2 micro preemies that didn't get an infection.
Then plan for this hospital is honestly freaking crazy.
But IMO, peeps have the mentality of entitlement in this country.

Not sure which MA plans you have there but mine doesn't cost me a dime more than standard part B and covers drugs, eye glasses etc. Not sure if they offer the same plan where you live but it AARP Medicare Advantage plan 3.
