unknown algae help!

first i had an outbreak of red turf algae, that stuff was tough to track down. only beaten with a group of new mexican turbos on the warpath.
as soon as that algae was gone, it seemed the niche was filled by this annoying thing. this stuff clings and grows on everything, even my birdsnests and other SPS!1!

however, unlike the turf stuff, it can be pulled off with a slight tug. there is just so much of it!
what is it? how do i kill it?
i have a large fuge which basically stopped growing cheato after it was growing like mad for a year or so. the cheato in it basically just sits there, not growing. i have not pruned in months.

Maidenhair IMO does it smell when you pull it off? and make your fingeres yellow?

i did not notice yellowing or smell, but i havent sniffed it or really looked at my fingers either.

For the Chaeto, when have you changed the light bulb over it last?

yea i was reminded of that - never! lol did not occur to me that the swirly's have a worthwhile spectrum that can change as well. i just changed that out an hour ago, so hopefully that was the root of the problem
