Unknown growth in tank

I have something growing on a live rock plug and I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is. I cannot post a pic but it looks like a shiny, black bubble. It looks a bit like a black pearl and is about the size of a small pearl. It has come up in the last couple of weeks. Any ideas?

Could be bubble algae

It probably is bubble algae and I would remove it carefully and immediately. Do not pop the bubble! I have seen bubble algae of the black variety a few times.

Ok, but it'll have to wait a couple of days. The xenia on that plug is attaching to another rock and I can't pull it out until the transfer is complete.

Could be a sponge, I wouldn't rush to get rid of it yet.

A pic would help id. If its shinny then is bubble algae.
