For the passed week I have been noticing a light film on the surface of the water in my tank. If I put my finger into the water it break apart, but then goes back together. I am wondering if it is some kind of algae.
I am not sure which tank you have but you can usually buy a surface skimmer which helps direct that type of film into your filtration system. They are very inexpensive too. Give that a shot!

I have the skimmer that came with the tank, but it will not stay where it is supposed to go. It just floats away.....

Do you have any flow directed at the top of the water? It isn't anything bad...unless it's sludge
It's just from foods, and fish slime stuff....
I have good flow at the top and thoughout the tank.
The tank is a Nano Cube DX12. In the bottom of chamber 1 I have 1 unit of Chemi-Pure Elite, and on top of that 1 unit of Purigen. In chamber 2 I have a Bio Cube Protein Slimmer. In chamber 3 I have the pump and heater.

I have the same tank and I also had that problem. I upgraded my pump from the stock one that comes with the tank to a maxi 900 and it stays put now.
