I bought a piece of lr today, and somehow, a pistol shrimp was on it. Now it is hiding in my tank. Will it hurt my starfish, or my pencil urchin?
I am starting a reef tank, is it reef safe??? I didn't even see him on the rock. Ahhh.... What do they eat? Should I get it out???
thanks,
Leopard

You can check out the ones they sell here. Lots of into on them. Anything meaty, flakes, or pellets. They won't hurt anything. That is a good hitch hiker when they are sold for $14-27 each!

I've got a pistol in my tank. It's great. I just bought a shrimp goby to match up with him. They're close together, but not sharing the same cave yet. You should look into getting a goby, they have an awesome relationship.:D

I have been researching them. Mine looks like a bullseys pistol shrimp. I would like to get a goby to see if they form a simbiotic (sp?) relationship. I have read that the type I had is less likely to pair with a goby, but i would get one anyway. However his burrow is in the back corner of the tank, so I wouldn't see either of them.
I like the jawfish, but I don't think they would pair. Now I need to do some goby research. Thanks for the help. I was afraid his little pincers woud destroy my tank by morning. If I ever had my hand in the tank, would it pinc me???

Mine snaps at snails all the time. I've seen it grab them and throw them out of its den. I wouldn't put my hand near it, but they aren't likely to come after you like my nemo does....
The goby I have is a hi fin red banded goby. They still haven't paired, but the goby seems to have made his home on top of the rock that the pistol resides...Close enough I guess.

Congratulations if you got a bullseye pistol shrimp as a freebie... there is almost no mistaking this species, as it's color is quite unique... I've had mine since he was in my nano, and now he graces my 54 corner. Despite having a few different types of gobies to pair up with, he remains independant as apparently is common with this species. While he doesn't require the snaps in order to catch food as they do in the wild, I notice mine does it whenever his burrow is invaded. This has woken me up a few times, so I could only imagine how stunned the invaders are... anyway here's a pic of the little beauty...

Asbury, I love those, and I was thinking of getting one. Do those gobies pair with shrimp? I heard that the bulleyes are not as likely as the other pistols to have a simbiotic relationship.
Mine looks just like the one in the picture. It is a bulleyes just like that one. I am going to look for a goby for this little guy. thanks for the help. You could imagine my suprise when i saw something with a claw in my tank, and not knowing what it was.
thanks for the help all,
Leopard
