Over the past summer I upgraded to a 125 reef.
I also upgraded the lighting to three 250w 10k halides and 2 110w actinic VHOs. Unfortunately I dont have any full tank photos>>> my tank is at home in northern CA while im in school in SD. The camera I used was a Pentax k10d well here it is. there are a few off topic photos for fun. hope you like it

Hey everyone. So I finally got to go back home to Northern CA for my grandma's 90th and found that everything is running quite well. Many of the corals have started filling in the spaces. I also bought a newer calcium reactor since my old one wasnt working and so my tank has been without one for like 6 moths now. I added a phosban reactor and adjusted the time for the lights now that days are getting longer. I also removed several fish to lower the bioload. Its amazing how fast things have grown since I've been gone. I removed the Green Coris wrasse (due to size and agression), two damsels, the lamark angel (which had gotten to a good 4.5 inches from the 2 inch juvenile when i got it), and the Foxface. As of now the Vlamingi may still be going to the Birch Aquarium or a LFS that I work at when home. My rose bubble on the right has split yet again. The pictures show three but now there are currently 5 (all of which started from a small $15 dollar anemone won at the San Francisco Aquarium society). When I was home I noticed that my pair of psychedelics had spawned. My papau new guinea percs were breeding as usual, as were the bengaii cardinals. Hopefully this summer ill have time to raise something! Here are some picture updates as well as some other fun pictures that I've taken while volunteering at the Birch Aquarium, at home, and here in San Diego.

So my friends tank just crashed after hitting 95 degrees or so. Thus I am now holding his fish.. AAHHHhhhh. all I can say is that the system is waaaaay overstocked but Im glad his fish pulled through since they were in terrible condition when he brought them over (swimming upside down/ spinning/ pale). He's setting up a new system since> all his corals / some fish died and the system he had became polluted. You can see some in the picuture> purple/sailfin/ yellow belly. I am just glad the Vlamingi will have a nice big home to swim around by the end of july. btw the dog is my mom's new dog.

Here is another picture of my female mandarin

and one of my male

my BT

my female Percula Clown for Papua new Guinea> still breeding every 9 days>> the male is soo difficult to get a picture of

LOVE your tank!!! just noting that i think your green mandarin is not a male, but a female? are you sure its a male? and how does the spotted mandarin and green mandarin do together?
also can you post your fish list (just your fish not your friends) thanks!!!

1. Yup its a Suncoral
2. The Vivarium and Planted tank are pretty much Autopilot. But The reef is a Zoo currently> explained in a bit
3. The mandarin is a male i picked out from a wholesaler but it lacked the dorsal ray> likely lost during transport.
To answer the Question... they dont!lol The spotted mandarins ganged up and beat up the green when I first introduced him so he has a very low maint 40 Hex to have all to himself! When introduced at the same time mandarins of the two species should get along just fine. My spotted mandarins just have been established for quite some time.
As for the excess of tangs in the tank, I had a friend who lost power/ and a heater malfuntion this summer that cooked his livestock... of which only his tangs survived. So they are currently spending time in my system to recover while he restarts his tank. They are marked as Temporary in the stock list. The Vlamingi is being donated to my School's Birch Aquarium in La Jolla as the showcase fish for thier newly designed Fiji Tank!
Current Stock-list: here it goes...
2 spotted mandarins (male/female) which eat pellets and spawn regularly
2 papau New guinea clowns (male/female> had her for a good 4 years)
4 BG black axil Chromises
Vlamingi tang> destined for Tank 26 at the Birch Aquarium in La jolla for the New Fiji Exhibit!
1Yellow Tang
Flame Angel
Cherub Angel
5 firefish
5 Bengaii cardinals> which have started breeding
Melanurus Wrasse
Sixline Wrasse
Lubbocks Wrasse
2 Lyretail Anthias Male Female
2 Blue Tangs> 1 Temporary
African Yellow Belly Blue Tang> Temporary
Tomini Tang
Sailfin Tang> Temporary
Purple Tang> Temporary
Royal Gramma
Fish Removed to reduce bioload:
Lamarck> got up to 5 inches!
Green Coris> got up to 5 inches too! used to be a model citizen but began picking on everyone
Foxface> it was a good run but you grew waaaay to fast
The Skimmer is XXL which helps
30 Gallon Refugium chalk full of Cheato seems to help too> Harvested Weekly by the Quarts
Phosban Reactor
Calcium Reactor
1/4 hp chiller running
3x 250 watt 10K XM halides
2x 110watt Actinic VHO Ice Cap Ballasts

I realized how funny it was that I was just starting to remove fish to reduce bioload when my friend's disater occured and thus my bioload went through the roof. There hasnt been a significant effect on the water quality thus far.

Funny but I think that my Blue tangs may have spawned again last night. Every once and a while I find the fish going nuts. upon closer inspection there are hundereds of eggs in the water. Through process of elimination> mandrin eggs arent this large, there really isnt anything with enough individuals to spawn besides the blue tangs. I guess I will have to pay attention next time!
