You know you could use the 75 as a fuge on the side if you have enough room. No need to take it down if you don't have to. I don't have a big tank like that yet, but I think if you get a large trash can and use siphon hose to get the water out. I know with my caniter filter, I can use the intake hose to get water back in from a bucket. Maybe someone here would have more advice on this. Good Luck! :happyfish

Question:
I have a 80 gallon tank that I have had up and running for over 4 months now. I just added LR to my tank. My problem is my levels are off the chart. I realize that I am doing this backwards. Should have added the LR first. Lesson learned. What do I do about the levels? Will they just even out? My fish are stressed and I have lost my Butterfly. My LFS guy said to introduce LR slowly. So I put in 18 LBS. Do I do a water change? Leave it alone? I realized panicing doesnt do much..haha. But if ANYONE has ANY feedback as to my problem it will be MUCH appreciated. Thank you.

Yes LR should of been added first, but it's never too late to add them now, but a small amounts at a time. You should have a QT tank on the side to place all your live stock within during this process of adding. You need to push the subtrate to reach bare bottom tank and place base rocks on the bottom against the glass then push the substrate back in place filling around the base rock(ALL the base rocks can be added in all at once), then add your live rocks on top, just a few lbs at a time(around 5lbs a month). Preferably well cured rocks otherwise you'll have high spikes like what your having right now from die offs on the rocks. You should do a water change around 25% every other day to bring the levels back down. Once everything is back down, I would leave it alone for a couple of months for it to adjust and just do your weekly water changes as usual. :happyfish

Well I guess one question I have for you is do you have an RO unit? If not now would be the time to get one. I justified the cost when I set up the new tank. If I bought the salt water for the new set up it would cost me about $100 and this was a one time expense. Where as I could get an RO for about $150 and the money would be spread out over the lenght of the tank. Sorry if that is confusing, kind of hard to explain.
I have 3 5-gallon water jugs and mix the salt in the jugs. At water change time I happen to have a pump that I can use to pump the water out of the sump and then pour the water back in. But then my tank is also near the door to the back yard so I am luck in that respect.

Thank you for your knowledge. I inspected the rock and smelled it. It all seemed fine. Nothing rancid, good coraline color and no squishie spots. I have a base of "dead rock" and the LR on top. Will it just run its course like a normal cycle? The water is a bit cloudy now too. The coral calcium additive I put in there is making the water cloudy. Is this normal? Is there a product that will not cloud the water, seeing as the direction say to add it twice a week? When I add more in a few months like you suggested, will I go thru this all over again? Thank you again!!

You should not add additives unless it's needed, it can drop your PH level if you added too much calcium. Like I've mentioned above, best to do a water change stable your tank. :happyfish
