the problem i have is that the new 90gal is going in the same place as the 55. i am making a new diy wet dry roughly about 3 times the size of the one i have now. i am transfering everything (sand, live rock and water) from one tank to the other. the question i have is if i add the bio balls i have now to the new system will it be enough to keep it stable or do i need to seed the new balls with bacteria. if so how would i do this.i dont have the space to move the 55 and let the 90 go through its own cycle. any input would be appreciated. thanx.

Right now you have enough bio filtration to support the 55, so if you change nothing about the amount of critters and fish in the tank and just transfer the livestock and add the additional 35 gallons of water you won't re-cycle the tank. Your new wet/dry will allow for more biological filtration and allow for more fish.

I would save some money and just use regular dry sand and mix in some cheaper base rock and let the sand and rock you are moving seed the new stuff.
I am upgrading two 37's into a 150 and that's what I plan on doing. Any thing to save a few $$$ because you know you will spend it some where else in this hobby.
