If I was you I would wait till the price goes down on the hd & blu-ray dvd player.Samsung is a good hd player.Pioneer elite is a awsome blu-ray player but little pricey but the picture is wow

Hey,
I saw your post but posted a stand alone on what I was doing. It doesn't really answer you question as you are looking for which is best. If you look at the deal I just got, it is hard to beat and is going to cause some big waves here in the near future. My hope is it drives down a BlueRay player to less than $300 with free movies thrown in and I'll just own both.

I say the pioneer elite picture is better.Just go to bestbuy in the magnolia center they normally have them playing in their demo models.I am sure they have a couple model to show you how they look their.I like seeing for my self what looks better.

Depends on which store you are in and how they have the TV setup. I've seen both look better at times. The only way you can know for sure which looks better is to have both DVD players hooked up to the same TV using the same type of input and ensuring the input settings for both are identical.
Then you also have to make sure the DVD players themselves are setup right.

Well all the displays are ran on hdmi cable at the one by my house.Like all my tv in my house. Most of the tv in Magolia are the high end tv and are ran with about 20 tv on them with a hdmi switch to change dvd players.Their is a differnce in tv's that why I own samsung tv's cause the picture killed all the other in the display center.

Gamers are interested in PS3, which is not the same thing as a standalone DVD player. That will be another whole side of the market.
From everything I've read, the BRay produces a better picture, so, with the trend to achieving the perfect picture what it is, my bets are on BRay. Once more movies open up in this format, it will bite the market big time, and take a big chunk of HD's thunder. Saying that, BRay is still only as good as the TV that shows it off, so I'm not sure that anything less than a higher-end, larger wide-screen would do the BRay justice (and therefore warrant getting one). I think we are long way from most people having 40+ size highend HD's, though its coming along that way.

i'd disagree that PS3 is going to control the market. xbox has the HD-dvd and it has better games.

Blu-ray is nice but the thing is it costs SOOOO much more, along with the discs costing WAY more. Go with the HD, smartest thing on the wallet.

wait for it.......
i wouldnt jump to upgrade yet. let them battle out this xmas season, and see who comes up with what. walmart is introducing a $200 hd-dvd player this xmas. you could always try it, and then decide. but i would wait till next year to upgrade.

I bought a hd-a2 a few months ago and love it, it was $250 when I bought it which was the same or less then quality up-converters so I just went for it, mine's hooked up to a 42" Panny plasma, I don't have much for discs yet, I think I've bought maybe four plus the five you get free. Transformers looks fantastic. When and if blu-ray drops to a similar price I'll buy one and hook it up downstairs but my buddy with both can't tell the difference on his 40" lcd. Even if hd loses I'll still have a great dvd player and upconverter till it dies.

I just bought a toshiba hd dvd player at walmart, on sale for $97, plus five free movies....watching it on my 54" lcd is unbelievable. For the money you cant go wrong with hd.

Their is no difference in picture quality from the two_Only difference will be with the higher end dvd players.Different movie makers are on each formats only a couple do both hd & blu-ray disks.
Thats really the only difference between the two.Like disney does not make a hd disk only blu-ray.

You want to know what I think will be the changing point, It won't have anything to do with quality or any of that but it will boil down to. HD DVD, it is already called HD vs Blue Ray. You're going to have to ask what is blue ray. And the folks here are lazy and will judge the book by its cover.

As mentioned, both formats are great. No one knows who will win out in the end or how long it will last. Paramount movies just announced they are discontinuing releasing any further movies on BR and cancelled all pending movies. They are going strictly with HD-DVD. Just another move on the chess board.

Also the only differnce between the hd and the blu-ray is the blu-ray has encryption and the hd dvd does not.Which really does not matter cause the encryption has been compromized already.
