upgrading questiones

ok in december iam upgrading my 55 to 180.I know its a long time away,but i have a few questions:
1.Do I place the water that was in my 55gal tank to the new 180gal tank?Or do i put fresher water in the tank?
2.do i buy new sand or can i place the sand i had in my 55gal tank?

If you ahve livestock in your tank you will need to cycle the new tank before adding anything to it. I went from a 55 to a 90 and had a small cycle I would imagine a 55 to a 180 would be a huge cycle. I would get new sand and cycle the tank. If you are using south down you can seed your new sand with some sand from your 55. But if it were me I would set-up the 180 and let is cycle...
