upgrading to 75

Currently I have a 45 set up with a 20 gal sump. It has been set up for 5 years. About a year and a half ago, I bought a 75 gal tank and stand but never set it up because of being too busy. Lately I have also been busy and the tank is now starting to get over run with apstasia. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have time to upgrade to the 75. So my dilemma is actually a few things. What is the best way to move everything from one tank to new one. the new tank will be in different location but in same room. Also what would be the best way to kill off apstasia? I was thinking anout putting the live rock in a bucket of saltwater out in the cold, maybe that would work? Is there a way to completley kill all the apsasia? Should I take rock out of water and let it dry, therby killing all apstasia and any other things living in or on the rocks. There are only a few fish in the tank and a few rocks with mushrooms on them. Problaby close to 100 pounds of liverock. Whats the best way to move everything except the apstasia into the new tank?

if you take the rock out yes they will die. But the rock will become a nice paper weight for about a year. You will need to add more rock to help restart the rocks life.

I know they will die, I was wanting to know if it would be worth letting everything die off in order to kill the apstasia. If I put the rock in a container of saltwater out in the cold, will the cold kill the apstasis. then could i put the rock back in a tank without a major spike?

if you inject the bigger ones with just a dab of lemon juice it will kill them, you can only do about 10 or so at a time without crashing the ph level, but it works great. Also putting a couple of peppermint shrimp in the tank will usually take care of any small ones that try to pop up.

No one else has any input on how to move from one tank to another and how to eradicate the apstasia at the same time?

How big is the apstasia? If they are smaller, I've always resorted to peperming shrimp. They always took care of any apstasia I've had.
As far as moving and upgrading to the bigger tank, since the tank is getting setup in the same room, I'd suggest getting the 75 all put together, grab live rock from your 40, put in 75. What do you currently have in your 40 livestock wise?

I transferred everything except the live sand from my 30 into my 75. I just added new sand, 40lbs dry 30lbs live, and then added another 50lbs of live rock and I did not have any major spikes at all. All my fish are still alive and doing well for about a month now. I also transferred as much of the 30gal water as possible. The only issue i had was my original live rock is starting to become covered in hair algae that came back after i had scrubbed all of my rocks before the transfer. I just bought a Sea Hare to take care of that problem.
Hope this helps
