Ok so as the title says, im thinking of UPGRADING to an ---- hqi fixture. i know lots of people say they are junk and dont waste your money, but its the only thing i can find within my budget that will work with what i want. Currently i have a 55 gallon with a 20" pc 50/50 light on the left hand side, and a hagen glo single t5ho light on the right side of the tank. All i really want to keep is zoas and leathers, cuz they are cheap, nice looking, and easy to care for. The fixture im looking at is only 199.99 with 25 dollar shipping. It has 2x250 watt hqi's and 12 led's for moonlights. All on seperate switches. I just moved out and have a baby on the way, so i dont see much more than maintanace money being available for my aquarium in the future. So im wondering if one of these fixtures will work with what i want. My zoas and leathers are doing ok under the lights right now, but i want them to do better than ok.

i had one of those over a 30 cube. 1 x 250 watt hqi with actinic supplement. the zoos were starving for light. they grew over an inch tall. i changed out the bulb, a few times with different high PAR bulbs. they didn't look happy.

vWell thats why i was looking at 250 watt ones. I tink if mine are doing ok under the light i have now, that they would do better under that one.

right now i have a 250 watt hamilton bulb over a 40 breeder. it's in a sunlight supply pendant and powered by a sunlight supply "galaxy" electronic ballast. it's about 2 feet above the water and i have sps on the bottom, doing great.
this sleazebay fixture i had left all my sps brown and my zoos ugly. same wattage, but lousy ballast and bulb. just some food for thought.
