uploading and posting pics using photobucket : a guide

I believe photobucket.com is one of the easiest sites to work with for photo use. Go to photobucket.com and create a FREE account to get started!
Heres a step by step picture tutorial of how to do it.
Begin: you can make your own individual photo album names as subcateories or you can just upload into one big album. I like creating different albums.... "family" "reef tank" "cats" etc. It makes it easier to find things.

we will start by learning how to upload an image from your computer. You are default to the "upload images to my PC" tab (notice I put stars next to it) You will then click "browse" to find the image you want to upload. Once you get this down-pat, you can play with the “bulk uploader” but for now, lets stick to the basics.

Select your photo by using the drop down box and searching. Example : Desktop> pictures> photo1234

I recommend using the “thumbnail setting” to make it so you can see pics, not just numbers or file names.

Click the image you wish to upload and click “open”

The image path gets automatically placed in the correct spot. At this point you can give your image a title so it looks nicer when you a flipping through your pics. You can repeat this two more times and upload up to three images at a time with the standard uploader. Once you are ready to upload ,click on “upload”

The image will begin to upload to photobucket and will give you a status bar that will run to 100%. It should only take a few moments- maybe a minute. When the upload is complete, the page will refresh and your uploaded photo will appear below in your ‘album’.

Each picture will have its own codes right under it. The code used for forums(including this one) is the IMG code. Just click on the first portion of the code that you can see and it will copy the entire code for you.. all you have to do is click on it! A small bubble will appear that says “copied”

You will be able to see the codes no matter how you are viewing the pic. You can maximize the pic size- or see how it will look when posted on the forum- by just clicking on the little pic and it will bring you to the “actual size” page.

Now that you have ‘copied’ the IMG code by clicking on it, you can go to swf.com and open your response or new thread box. Use the right mouse button to open the mini menu and click “paste” to paste your code in the box. You can paste multiple pics/codes and also type responses in there like “heres my FTS” then the IMG code. Click ‘preview’ to check out your picture response.

Then just hit accept to accept your previewed thread. You can also skip the ‘preview’ part and just hit accept when you are done putting the codes in place.

hope all this helps, there always seems to be difficulty with pic posting.
Jessica.
FYI these codes are good for many applications:
The “direct link” does just that. Place it in emails rather than actually uploading pics into emails, and the person who receives it will just click and BOOM they are viewing it online in your photo album. No downloading required for the person who received the email!
The HTML works on sites like “myspace”. Place it in your ‘profile’ on myspace and you will have your pic on your…. “space”
The IMG code (one we are using) is useful for just about any board. And you don’t have to add anything to the code to make it work because it already has the

heres how to do it when uploading a pic from a website, or something that is NOT yours. (for representational use only, please dont pretend something is yours if it isnt!)Find a pic you want to copy and right click it. you want to copy the "image location". NOTE: some images are copywrited and you cannot get the code this way. There are ways around that but ... one thing at a time!

Once you copy the 'image location" you can go back to photobucket. Select the "web URL" tab to change interface so you can upload something NOT on your computer

paste the "image location" into the first box by using the "right click- paste" method shown in the picture. The image location will appear and look like a web address with a .jpg or other image tag on the end of it.

If you now click somewhere outside the "upload" box, photobucket will show you a thumbnail of what is to be uploaded. If the 'thumbnail' area remains white or an image does not appear - the "image location" you copied was bad, or had a copywrite.. either way, its not going to upload properly (this does happen on occaision)

Proceed to click the upload button, just like you would if you were uploading images directly from your computer. The codes will appear just as with normal uploading and eveything is the same.... except THIS image came from the web, not your computer.
