I recently saw an add for an upside down blue jellyfish. Does anyone have one of these? it would be a very cool addition I think. The seller claims that the sting is harmless to all creatures, that they are reef safe, and only get to 6 inches big after many years. Have you all heard of this?

I don't have any info on the jelly but I know the site where you saw them. The site has quality products but their descriptions of the animals are often VERY inaccurate. I've ordered from them and everything was ok, just don't believe everything they say in the description.

yeah i wasnt taking everything they said as fact, thats why I wanted to ask on here. This is my best place for research

Not sure if this is quality info but from what I've heard, they're like any other coral except they don't attach to anything. With all the powerheads most people have, this is a problem because it blows them around and shreds them to pieces. I also think that they are toxic and can harm you tank if they are eaten by the powerhead.

If its a cassiopea sp. Then they dont sting like the normal jellies they release nymatisist (speling) into the water that makes you itch. If you have good filtration it wont bother your tank too much. But as stated they would need low flow.

This is what I found...
A wide sandy bottom aquarium will be ideal for the upside down jelly fish, as well as bright lighting and a low current, they can grow up to 6 inches, however, this will take up many years. Their sting is neither painful nor poisonous to humans, fish and inverts. These creatures are reef-safe.
Size: 1-3 inches
Care Level: easy
Reef-Safe: yes
Diet: photosynthesis, plankton
Acclimation: float bag
