It seems I've picked up a hitchhiker in the form of a small (.5") pistol shrimp of some sort. Don't know if its full size or not and have yet to hear any popping, but i've heard horror stories of cracked tank glass as the result of their their pistol reports, true? Any other reason I might consider getting rid of it? :notsure:

Update: Upon further research it appears to be a goby shrimp, grows to about 1.5". Tankmates are 4 cleaner shrimp, 1 yellow longnose butterfly, 1 bicolor angel, 1 yellow tang, and a couple juvenile tank-raised perculas all in a 125 gal fish and liverock only tank. Oh yeah, and about a 50 Seurats hermit crab clean-up crew I gathered from tide pools.

I don't see any reason for you to be concerned. Just let him be and enjoy your new hitchhiker (as long as it is DEFINITELY not a mantis shrimp).

I third it. I have a Caribbean pistol in my 125 and they do not damage the glass, that is attributed to a mantis shrimp. Pistols will pair off with shrimp gobies, mine is paired with a yellow watchman goby. Get a shrimp goby and see if they hook up, it's really cool to watch.
