urchins and anenomes

anyone with urhins and anenomes together?
I have a XXL long spine urchin in my 125 along w/juv. emporer, haw. puffer & a gold line marroon clown & sev crabs/snails.
Was considering a beautiful rose bubble to see if clown would enjoy its company!
community is peaceful and urchin bothers nothing(acually the most interesting inhabitant to watch, he/she is bigger than a golfball and has 7-8" spines!)
also I only have 4-40w 48" bulbs, 2-5K & 2-6500's, overhead, is this sufficient for the anenome?

I'd get a power compact before trying a really pretty anemone, especially if you want an expensive one. If you want a haitian or a condi though, I'd try with what you have--if by chance you lose it, it wasn't a huge investment.
I have a haitian together with a black spiny urchin and they're fine and dandy. :D

For a 125 I would recommend metal halide. As far as compatibilty, my long spine and rose bubble tip are fine.
If you want a haitian or a condi though, I'd try with what you have--if by chance you lose it, it wasn't a huge investment.
:nope: Definately not the attitude to have.

Sadly this is a prime example of a typical pet store responce and is a large contributor of animal death in the hobby.

I agree with the comments above. Get the anemone that you want but make sure your lighting is there before hand. I have a long tentacle und 440 of vho and 350 mh and it is happy as can be. Any thing less than mh you and your anemone won't be happy imo

I definitely didn't mean it to sound harsh, and I see now how my wording was way off.
I had a condi for like a year and a half under your standard 50/50 bulbs before it kicked, and it only died because I had an ammonia spike that killed everything in my tank. [FYI--don't ompletely clean your entire filtration setup. It removes all the good bacteria and stuff, and the ammonia spikes and kills everything. Live and learn!]
Some anemones require stronger lighting than others, just like certain corals and such. Each species is different, and beyond that, every specimen is different as well. The condi I had was probably hardier than most, being that it lived so long under flourescents. I was most likely just lucky though--like those people who can keep triggers in their reefs haha--and I'm sure it doesn't happen often at all that anemones can survive for any period of time in low lighting.
IMO, if you want one, I'd go with a power compact (or two or three...) as opposed to metal halides. I just don't see the need for something so powerful in the home aquarium. If it's a really really deep tank, you don't really have any other choice because other lighting fixtures can't reach the bottom. But as long as your tank isn't insanely huge, I don't see the sense in going through the expense and trouble of metal halides when you can keep most anemones, soft corals, and lots of pretty things with PC's. :D Of course, if you want stony corals, then you'd probably need MH anyway lol.
So anyway, as for your compatibility question, I don't think you'll have a problem mixing an anemone with an urchin. Hah.

hey there, im new to this site just got a computer and am back online.
ive got 2 different urchins (long spine and some short spined green one) with 5 anemones ( 3 long tenticles and 2 rose) in my 100g tank. 2 of them are rose anemones originally came as one 6 months ago but split into two of them. they all live together well no problems. i only have 210 total watts in my tank and the anemones are doing fine especially the rose ones, one looks like its ready too divide into another pair again so i dont think that u need as much watts as some say but im sure more is better.

yea....there is plenty of light in this aquarium 4 fish....just didn't know how much an anenome would require. Gotta read up on it some more! I get plenty of good green alge!
just thought my clown would enjoy the company!
I have metal halide pendant above 44 that only has live rock & cleaner crew at moment.
the 125 is mainly set up 4 the emperor to grow into(ready 4 him to start changing...got him from HERE!) and is built into the wall of my stairwell with really no more intentions of upgrading, thats why I'm starting reef upstairs...the water is shared between both tanks
