Urchins

I looked in the compatability chart and it only lists longspine urchin...A while back it was suggested that I can put a pencil urchin in my seahorse tank...have not gotten one yet....anyone know if either a bali pincushion urchin, or pincushin urchin would be okay with seahorses? They are listed as peaceful.

I have read both yes they are safe and no they could polk if your horse decides to hitch to it.

Pencil urchin would be fine. Longspine and others with sharp spines would not be fine. Seahorses will attempt to hitch to things you don't want them to. You would not want the seahorses tail getting stuck and the urchins toxin to affect the seahorse, espcially since the skin on the underside of their tail is very soft/vulnerable.

I have pencils and yes there completely safe....while I have seen pics of others with pincushion urchins and seahorses I would not take that risk, very sharp little spines on them, just my 2 cents

Thank you everyone for your opinions...I will stay away from the pincushions for my seahorse tank...I think I'll get a couple for my 225g though, and wait until the pencil urchins come into stock and try one for my horse tank.
