What??? that makes little sense....... Uh, if you mean "Do you need lighting for an urchin or clams?" then No, Urchins are not dependent for food upon light but on algae, some on corals when they get the chance.. Clams need very strong light and are generally considered to be for advanced aquarists requireing special attention and light with a high lumen or brightness value

Assuming you mean do these things need light.
Urchins no.
Depending on the clam yes/no, cleaner clams don't need light, other clams do.
But why have a tank with no light on it!!!! Don't you want to see what everything is up to!!!

Urchins however need lots of algae, and depending on the type they destroy corals and disrupt everything. They stick pieces of coral on their back and away they go.
My poor pipe organ coral never had a chance. They also eat coraline algae, so they are not just eating the stuff you don't want.
Did mention I don't like urchins much?

urchins eating coralline are very very messy and usually help spread it more so than doing unrepairable damage to coralline

Yeah.. yeah... yeah... I hear ya on all this urchin talk. I actually moved mine this week to go reef and it died. I miss it. They can be cool but I understand the reef concerns.
