Used Metal Halide Bulbs

as many people do, and more don't, know... halides have a TON of mercury in them. Our reef club has a challenge presented to us, Icecap will give a donation to the EO Smith school's aquaculture division if we can hand in 500 used halide bulbs. If anyone wants to safely ship them up to me i can hand them in for you, or just make sure you bring them to a hazardous material collection site. Or if you want, you can bring them to MACNA for the hand in to Icecap..

What happens if you just throw the bulbs in the trash???

they break and release their mercury..same with t5's and pc's, but halides are MUCH higher content.

would one of those boxes from usps flat rate boxes with the bulb wraped in bubble wrap work?
i got least one i can send ya id rather it be disposed of properly then it going iinto a landfill. please pm me address

Old post or not, it is a good point...I am switching out my old bulbs tomorrow...what can I do with the old ones now? Until just now, I didn't know they had mercury in them, I tossed a bulb the other day right in the regular trash

No, but there still has to be a safe way to get rid of them...maybe we can put them in the recycle bin

Just FYI Home Depot also takes used and broken bulbs for free, in case there in nothing else close to you.
