I have a question. My lfs has some dead corals that have been cleaned very well as they are bright white. Can one use these in a tank for mushrooms & zoas to grow onto??

did they clean them with bleach, or are the recently dead from dying in the store? if the latter, why did they die in the store? do they or did they ever run copper?
if you lost a coral, you could use the skeleton for that purpose. but to buy dead ones you have to think about the consequences.

I try not to buy dead coral. I kinda consider it to be like buying a stuffed animal from a taxidermist. I don't know what the impact on the reefs is, but I hate to think I helped create a demand for a dead animal.

Dead coral is one of the last remaining uncontrolled reef exports. Coral reefs all over the world are threatened, we, reef aquarium keepers least of all should be contributing to this. Also, try to always buy captive grown live corals, NOT wild caught corals.

Thanks for the replies. Never thought of it that way, and I do really hate it when they take stuff from the ocean. I will just look for some small rubble pieces or small branch type live rock. Its for my pico tank and most of the live rock is to big for it. Lot of rubble though in the stores in their tanks.
Thanks again for the replies.....
