UV light doesn't seem to help with Algae

I installed a 9W UV sterilizer a week or two ago. I’m having a Algae problem. It’s a new tank but I was to get rid of it as soon as I can so I installed a UV light to help. It doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I don’t expect the algae to just disappear but I did think I would see the growth on the glass slow down. I assumed the UV would slow or stop the amount of water born algae there by stopping or slowing the reappearance of the algae on the glass after I clean it. I haven’t seen much of a slow down of the algae on the glass. Could this be because the flow is to high or is it more likely to little and not a fastest enough flow of the volume of the aquarium going past the UV light?
Thanks,
Stephen

Sometimesalgae growth can be caused by poor lighting or high
phosphates.... UVsterilizers can't get rid of that problem,or at least I think that they can't
