UV lighting?

any opinions on this light? price wise? how much maybe?
This is a double helix Uv sterilizer made by custom sealife includes an 18 watt bulb . The box says its good for up to 250 gallon aquarium ... The coiled tube inside results in over 48 inches of length eliminates over 98% of free floating oraganisms . Can be mounted vertical or horizontal . This unit is Brand new in unopened box ... This is the newest version available has the waterproof bulb compartment in case of leak at the fittings in wont run down into the bulb compartment and blow it

Hi,
If you're setting up a Fish Only then it look like that UV will perform as expected. You should probably run only 25% of the recommended flow rate if you're trying to kill Ick and about 50% flow rate for algae.

i will not link my website.its private,not commercial but anyway i thank you for your help.
i will have live rock,inverts and plenty of fish. do you still think this one will work?

Someone else will need to answer that for you. IMO UV is inappropriate for live rock, live sand, or reef aquariums.

From what I've learned on UV, it will control algae and kill parasites. This would be great on a FO tank like Bang said, but you may want to stay away from them on Reef tanks. Some people use them and have had success however.
UV kills more than just parasites. It kills plankton and beneficial bacteria that are in your water as well. There are more natural ways to control parasites and algae other than UV.
