from the information I have been given on UV sterolizer .this unit is not meant to be ran full time.yes some do run it that way and yes it does kill beneficial bacteria along with the bad.if you have an issue with your tank such as bad algae blooms or paresites the uv will be beneficial in correcting the problems.remember it only destroys the bacteria or paresites that are free floating.so If you have an out break of ich it will help eliminate any free floating paresites not the ones already attached to your fish they will still have to run their course

UV's have to run all the time to be most effective! most of your beneficial
bacteria live's in your gravel, live rock, or bio-ball's (If you have them)so a UV really
won't hurt them! The main thing that hurts is your wallet.

Well acrylic51 you probably won't find the problem.
We still (Or should I say, I still don't know what causes Green water!)
but the one thing I know is It a BIG pain to get out!! How do you
"Mask" the problem?!?!? A Uv kills the "green organisms" in the water
Not masking them! Ok, are you ready for this?

A Uv sterilizer is a devise where water go's thru a quarts tube
where it is exposed to a UV-C light at (407nm). The light helps
the organisms go thru there life cycle much faster than normal.
thus the organisms die.(That's why a slow pump and a high wattage
is good!) OK DID YOU GET ALL OF THAT???
Hope that help!
